Unsponsored Student Fund

 Once students are accepted into the scholarship program each November, they are guaranteed support even though they don't yet have sponsors. We try to recruit enough students so that we'll have them available for sponsorship all year, generally getting them all sponsored by the following October. That means, however, we somehow have to fund their education until sponsors are found. This prevents us from recruiting new students as aggressively as we would like.

The Unsponsored Student Fund is a buffer that helps us recruit more students each year without being restricted by an urgent need to get them sponsored. Every additional donation towards this fund allows us to bring more students into the program. We're to a point now where the scholarship program is really working. It's time to grow it.

Almost every child in the Pura Vida program has received support from this fund at one time or another. By drawing from the fund, the students can begin school with their classmates, rather than try to catch up later. The fund also supports students whose sponsors discontinue support.
