Guatemala Surgical Mission - September 2008
(St. Luke's UMC, Highlands Ranch, CO)

There is a huge need for basic surgery in rural Guatemala. Especially needed are hysterectomies, hernia, and cleft palate repairs. Many local residents have no access to surgical care whatsoever, and teams such as these are the only opportunity they may have.

We will be based in the village of Camanchaj the Quiche department in the western highlands of Guatemala. We will be working with the Guatemalan Methodist Church and a local missionary organization, Salud y Paz.

Here are the details we know so far:
  • Team size will be a maximum of 30 people
  • We will be providing surgeries for 5 days.
  • We will need:
    • Surgeons (OB/GYN, Facial/Plastic, and General)
    • Nurses/Scrub techs/O.R. personnel
    • Anesthesiologists/Anesthetists
